Kulgam: Dozens of National Health Mission (NHM) employees on Thursday protested in Kulgam to raise their demand for the release of their pending salaries, reports said.
The protesting employees said they were without salaries for the last four months which has left them in a state of despair.
They asked the authorities for their intervention and order the release of pending salaries of the aggrieved employees.
“We never get salaries on time and every time the department withholds our salary for two to three months. We are subjected to mental torture for none of our fault,” said Tabassum Ahmad, an employee.
He said the department should intervene into the matter and ensure that their salaries are released at the end of every month.
“Education of our children gets affected as we are not able to pay their fees regularly,” he said.
The protesting employees accused the department of giving them step motherly treatment and despite putting in best efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic they were deprived of their salaries.
“It is unfortunate that we have to beg for our salaries, which is our basic right,” the protesting employee said.
The employees urged the higher ups to look into the matter and resolve their pending issues once for all.
Meanwhile, the protest was called off after two hours after the protesting employees received verbal assurances from officials that their salaries will be released within two days.
