Tral: A mesmerizing Dam popularly known as Panner dam in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has been neglected by the government, locals have alleged.
Over the years, the spot has emerged as a favourite picnic spot for youngsters owing to the lush green beauty surrounding the Dam from all sides, adding to the beauty of location.
“It has a good potential to be developed as a tourist spot. Unfortunately it has been neglected by the concerned authorities,” a local resident said.
The locals said, the dam is source of irrigation for nearby paddy fields of Panner Jageer, Mandoora and its adjacent areas.
“Till recent past the dam was without an accessible road which gave tough time to visitors. A road was developed recently,” a local said.
He said that no attention is being given to keep the water body and the surrounding areas clean. “There is no parking facility available here as well,” the local said.
The residents said, no residential quarters and other facilities were available in the area which disappoints the tourists who visit the area.
“We brought the issue to the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail,” they said.
The residents urged the authorities to look into the matter and take immediate steps for development of the spot so that it can attract more people and generate employment for local youth.
