Narrow Sarbal bridge chokes traffic on Anantnag-Pahalgam road

Pahalgam: A narrow bridge on the road leading to picturesque tourist spot Pahalgam chokes traffic on the highway which leads to massive traffic jams, locals and tourists have alleged.
The bridge at Sarbal just around two kilometers from Pahalgam is very vital as all the vehicles coming to and fro from Pahalgam have to pas over it, locals said.
They said that the bridge is very narrow due to which tourists as well as locals rae made to suffer because of the massive rush the traffic gets choked at this point.
Tourists as well as locals say that the narrow bridge at Sarbal is the main cause of Traffic jam at Pahalgam but the local authorities are unmoved.
Tanveer Ahmad, a local resident said that only one vehicle can cross the bridge at a time due to which the traffic of other side gets blocked as only one way traffic can pass over the bridge.
Locals said that as the local authorities are aware about the rush of the tourists in Pahalgam which has increased manifold since last one month but they are unmoved and have failed to take any step to construct one more bridge at the crucial spot.
They said that as tourist season has already started and in coming days the rush will increase further so authorities must take cognizance of the issue and construct one more bridge there.
They said that there is need of construction of Bailey bridge as it can be installed in a short span of time and it will ensure free movement of vehicles and help reduce the traffic snarls.
The locals said that the bridge should be put in place ahead of the commencement of the all important Amarnath yatra.
“During the yatrs period the rush and arrival of vehicles to Pahalgam will increase further and if a Bailey bridge is not put in place, the pilgrims too will be facing huge inconvenience,” they added.
