Locals demand construction of new building

Awantipora: A Health and Wellness Center in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is facing space crunch due to which the health services at the centre is getting badly affected.
The residents of the KachKoot Awantipora said that due to space crunch, the employees posted at the hospital are unable to utilize all the resources available at the center.
They said that despite medicines and other things being available at the center the absence of any doctor means that the people of the area are unable to get any benefit.
The health center is currently functional in two rooms and among them one is being used to stock medicines, vaccines and other items and there is just one room from where all other activities are taken up, they said.
“We are ready to donate land if government is ready to construct a new building for the hospital,” the locals said.
“The health center is very important as it falls along the national highway-44 and is lying in between SDH Bijbehara and PHC Awantipora,” they said.
“Every day accidents take place on highway in the area but in absence of such facilities available at center, they are forced to take injured persons to other hospitals,” they added.
Locals requested higher ups to look into the matter and either shift the centre to any building or construct a new building for which they are ready to donate land.
Official sources said the officials posted at the center are unable to purchase new items for the center as there is no space to keep these items.
Meanwhile, an official of the health department said that they are looking to see if there is any school building lying vacant in the area so that the center can be shifted there so that it can function properly.
