Triumph : Tral village gets to see the glow of eclectic bulb after 70 years
Locals thank administration, requests them to provide other facilities
Tral: For the residents of Gujjer Basti of Bajwani village, a small hamlet located on the hilly terrain of Tral today was a special day. The residents could not believe their eyes as the tiny hamlet got connected to the world of electric wires for the first time.
This tiny village had over the past several decades lived in abject darkness as nobody was willing to listen to their woes.
Gurpal Gujjar Basti which consists of around one dozen households wasn’t electrified as of now and today it was for the first time the area received electricity supply.
Locals said that they have been living there since decades but were still dependent on candles and other means of traditional lighting systems.
“We were eagerly waiting for the day when the hamlet will be electrified as we have been struggling hard to provide education to our children as lack of electricity hampered their active participation in studies,” Diljana, a local woman said.
She said that now the children will be able to study during evening hours too, otherwise they used to skip studies once darkness set in.
“Now we will be able to charge our mobile phones and remain in touch with our friends and relatives which otherwise was impossible without electricity,” said another resident, Mohammad Jabbar.
The locals have thanked the administration for electrifying the area and said that there is festive environment in the area after witnessing this marvel for the first time.
They said that first sight of electricity has brought cheers among the locals as it wasn’t less than a dream that has come true.
They requested administration to look into their other requirements including road connectivity and water supply as well.
An official of the PDD said this was the only area which was un-electrified in Tral sub division as earlier this year Gurpal area of Tral was electrified as well.
