Anantnag:- The work on vital floriculture park in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district is on halt as authorities failed to start construction work again after August 2019.
Locals from Halmulla and Sethar area of Anantnag said that park on the bank of river was approved during the PDP-BJP government.
They said that soon after its approval work was started on it, however, due to unknown reasons it was left half way.
After spending lakhs of rupees on it, work has been stopped and now no attention is being provided towards this park, Shakeel Ahmad, a local resident said.
Presently, the floriculture park has been turned into a sand mandi and sand extracted from Jhelum is kept in the park by some locals, they said.
Locals were very happy after the park was approved in their area and they were expecting that it will be completed soon, however nothing happened on ground, a senior resident said.
“We have taken up this issue with the concerned authorities several times but to no avail,” he said.
The locals have now once again requested higher ups to look into the matter and start work on it immediately so that the vital park can be completed.
In summers, wild bhung grows in the park and it becomes a safe haven for drug addicts, they said.
An official, when contacted said that contractor who started construction work on the park is yet to get some payment and there are no funds available with the concerned department at the moment.
He added that they have informed higher ups in this regard and work will be started once funds are made available.
