Shopian: A school in south Kashmir’s Shopian district faces dearth of staff besides lacks drinking water facilities, locals alleged.
Locals as well as students from Chotipora village in Imamsahib zone of south Kashmir’s Shopian district said that the upper primary school in the village has just four teachers who have to cater to nine classes.
They said that there were five teachers in the school and one among them has been transferred recently, however, no one has been sent as his replacement.
They further added that it is very difficult for four teachers to attend to the needs of students of nine classes.
Locals as well as teachers said that three years back while constructing a road in the area the water supply pipeline to the school got damaged.
They said that since last three years, there is no water supply to the school but as schools remained closed due to covid-19, there was very less impact on the students.
They said that since last one month as schools are open now but in absence of drinking water facility to the school, the students as well as teachers have to either consume contaminated water or tread several hundred meters to get water.
They further added that the issue was brought into the notice of concerned authorities several times since last one month who assure that within days the supply will be restored but nothing has been done so far.
They added that just few pipes are damaged and it will take just one or two hours to replace them but no one is willing to get the issue resolved.
The locals have now requested higher up to look into the matter at an earliest and make water supply line functional so that students as well as teachers can heave a sigh of relief.
