Anantnag: The frequent traffic jam in several towns on old national highway is giving tough time to commuters, locals alleged.
The National Highway-1A popularly known as old national highway runs through major towns like Pampore, Panthachowk, Awantipora, Bijbehara and others but due to frequent traffic jam on old national highway in these towns, commuters are suffering.
Locals from these areas said that old highway remains congested throughout the day and there is need that government must issue orders for widening of old highway.
They further added that traffic jams are frequent in Pampore and Bijbehara towns mostly and authorities must take immediate steps to widen the old national highway so that people won’t suffer.
Government can easily widen old national highway in towns as several proposals were set in motion in this regard, but all of them were left midway after national highway 44 was opened for traffic, the locals said.
They further said that besides widening, the lack of parking spaces in these towns is adding to the problems.
Hundreds of cars remain parked on both sides of national highway in these towns which adds to the traffic chaos, they said.
They appealed the government to look into the matter and issue orders of widening of national highway especially in towns so that commuters can heave a sigh of relief.
