MVD conducts awareness programmes at Gulmarg, Tangmarg
BARAMULLA: Continuing its efforts to disseminate information with regard to traffic rules, Motor Vehicles Department Baramulla Saturday organised a day long awareness programmes on road safety at Gulmarg and Tangmarg to make people aware about the importance of obeying traffic rules and regulations while being on roads besides the use and utility of safety gadgets.
Addressing the gathering, the Assistant Regional Transport Officer Baramulla, Mubashir Jan said that the deaths happening due to road accident are an emerging disaster and called for a serious intervention by civil society and media to create continued awareness on road safety norms and regulations.
Underlying the cause of maximum road accidents, the ARTO elaborated that accidents happen because people don’t obey the traffic rules in letter and spirit. Driving without seat belts and helmets, use of mobile phones, over speeding are the vulnerable in driving, thereby cause accidents, the ARTO added.
While highlighting the importance of organizing such programmes, the ARTO said that Motor Vehicles Department Baramulla has intensified the road safety awareness programmes across the district only to disseminate a message of obeying traffic norms so that one can save the precious lives of people being lost due to accidents.
Apart from the road safety programme, fitness of vehicles was also checked during which many private and commercial vehicles were blacklisted on spot and were declared unfit for further driving on roads.
Meanwhile, the availability of appropriate parking facilities was also felt in order to improve the traffic management.
