Animal carcasses get stuck up in ropes in Jhelum river
Sand miners have tied ropes across Jehlum, say locals
Pulwama: The carcasses of dead animals are getting stuck with the ropes that have been tied across river Jehlum by sand extractors in Pulwama district, locals have alleged.
They said that the as a result the carcasses start decomposing on the surface of the water which causes immense trouble to the locals.
People from Marwal village of Pulwama district said that the dead animals are often getting trapped with ropes that have been tied across river Jehlum by sand extractors.
They said that they don’t have any objection on extraction of sand done manually by local youth but the problem is that dead animals are getting stuck with the ropes they have tied across the river Jehlum.
The locals added that there are around five water supply schemes in the area which get supply directly from the river Jehlum.
The dead animals remain stuck in the river with the ropes kept by sand extractors for the safety of their boats for weeks together and locals are forced to consume the same water.
By using contaminated water, there are chances that water borne diseases can break out any time, the locals alleged.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter and take steps so that such practices can be stopped.
Meanwhile, Chairman District Development Council Pulwama syed Bari Andrabi said that he will take up the issue with the concerned authorities and immediate steps will be taken so that such things won’t happen in future.
