17 years on play ground in Anantnag village still incomplete
Anantnag: Even after a lapse of around 17 years, the authorities in Anantnag district have failed to complete a sports ground for the past 17 years.
As per locals, the ground at Nowshera Anantnag was sanctioned in year 2004-2005 during PDP-Congress regime, and accordingly work was started on it but not completed as of now.
They said that a year after it was sanctioned, work started on the construction of the play ground and men and machinery was pressed into service for digging and leveling purposes.
They added that during the initial phase work was going on at a good pace and the sports lovers of the area were very jubilant as they were hopeful that the completion of sports ground will help in promotion of sports activities in the area.
They further added that since then 17 years have passed now but it has not been completed and players of the area have to go to Bijbehara or Anantnag to play cricket and involve in sports activities.
They said that that despite spending huge amount on the ground authorities have failed to complete the turf and outfield of the ground.
Local cricket players said due to unknown reasons, the play ground has left incomplete due to which sports lovers are facing dejection.
They said that every year authorities allot the ork to various contractors but the work stops midway and the ground is left unattended.
“We have brought this issue in notice into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail,” they said.
The local sports persons have now demanded intervention of District Development Commissioner Anantnag so that the issue is taken up for resolution.
