Notorious timber smuggler, drug peddler held in Sopore
Sopore: A habitual and chronic forest offender and a drug peddler were arrested in two different tasks carried out by the police in north Kashmir’s Sopore area, a police spokesman said.
He said that a timber smuggler identified as Syed Khan son of Khushal Khan of Kutru Naribal Rafiabad involved in four FIR’s viz 80/17, 63/21 of Panzalla and 80/18, 101/19 of PS Dangiwacha was arrested by Police station Panzla in Rafiabad.
According to police statement, the offender had made tremendous damage to the forests by smuggling and cutting trees and timber, thereby causing irreparable loss to the national economy and public health.
Despite several warnings and registration of FIR’s the offender had not refrained from indulging in these illegal activities, the spokesman said.
The nafarious activities of the offender had become highly determental and dangerous for society and forests. Accordingly a warrant under PSA was issued by District Magistrate Baramulla in the month of September 2021. The offender after knowing about the warrant was evading his arrest and concealed his presence form his native area. On the intervening night of 6/7 March 2022, the warentee was arrested from Srinagar. The smuggler will be lodged at Central Jail Kotbalwal Jammu shortly, the police spokesman said.
Meanwhile, police arrested a notorious drug peddler along with contraband substance in Sopore area of Baramulla district.
Police in a statement said that on a specific information regarding drug peddling a police party established a Naka at Vijbal Rafiabad crossing intercepted a suspected vehicle bearing registration number DL3CT -3503 which tried to flee after noticing Police Party but due to alertness of Police Party present they were caught tactfully. While searching 1560 capsules of SPASMOPROXYVON Plus were recovered from his possession and accused was arrested.
The Identity of the accused has been ascertained as Jamsheed Ahmad Malik @Bat Bakra S/O Ghulam Muhammad Malik R/O Achabal Sopore.
Regarding the incident case FIR No. 40/2022 under section 8/22 NDPS Act stands registered in Police station Sopore and further investigation into the matter has been taken up, the spokesman added.
