Nadigam Shopian residents demand up-gradation of transformer

Shopian: The residents of Nadigam village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded upgradation of 100 KVA transformer in the area.
The residents said that the existing 100 KVA transformer often develops technical snag due to which inhabitants have to face long duration power cuts.
They said that since last one month, their transformer has developed technical snag at least four times due to which they were reeling under darkness.
They said that they have been raising this issue in front of concerned higher officials but to no avail.
Ghulam Hassan, a local resident said due to heavy load on existing transformer, it often develops snags and people have to sit through dark long hours.
He said that in last 25 days, the transformer got damaged four times.
Another local said that there are over 30 households getting supply from the existing transformer but due to heavy load most of times it remains defunct.
“We have to arrange funds on our own to take the transformer for repairing and bring it back and this month we had to take the transformer for repairs at least four times,” he said.
The locals demanded that government must look into the matter at an earliest and upgrade the existing transformer so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
They demanded personal intervention of Chief Engineer PDD and concerned Executive Engineer in this regard.
On contacting the concerned executive engineer, Er Abdul Rashid, he said that there remains heavy load on the transformer due to which it gets damaged frequently.
He said that in the month of March the transformer will be augmented and the peoples worries will be addressed.
