Police organises Drug De-addiction awareness camp

Srinagar: Police in Handwara organised a day-long Awareness Programme on Drug De-addiction at Govt. Degree College Handwara, a police spokesman said.
The event was organised in collaboration with Youth Development & Rehabilitation Centre Srinagar.
The event was inaugurated by SP Handwara Sandeep Gupta-IPS, besides ASP Handwara, Principal GDC Handwara, Dr. Muzafar Khan of YD&RC and other officers from Police/Civil were also present. Students from GDC Handwara and various other Schools, members of Civil Society were also present on the event.
On the occasion, ASP Handwara presented a detailed presentation about the menace of drugs, sources, causes, consequences, role of parents, civil society, teachers, Police, Health Department, Judiciary and other stakeholders. While speaking on the event, he said that the issue of drug abuse is a challenge before the country. It is the duty of all stakeholders to join in creating awareness about the illegal use of drugs and the measures to be taken to prevent this menace.
He appreciated participants for being part of the event organised by Police in organising the programme on drug De-addiction which will prove to be useful in the long run. He also appealed the participants to cooperate Police in identifying drug addicts in their localities so that they can be counseled in better ways.
Members of Youth Development & Rehabilitation Centre also spoke on the occasion and highlighted their experience in treating drug addicts. They gave a detailed speech on how to recognize that a person is addicted of drugs, treatment and testing process. On the event, the members of civil society, religious preachers, teachers and students also spoke and highlighted the causes and consequences of drug abuse and assured their possible support and cooperation for a peaceful environment.
At the conclusion a prize distribution ceremony was organised and prizes were distributed among the participants, the spokesman concluded.
