Police arrests four drug peddlers
Srinagar: Police has arrested four drug peddlers in Kulgam, Pulwama and Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Friday.
On specific information, a police party at a checkpoint established at Laroo crossing intercepted a suspicious person. He was identified as Bilal Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Yousuf Wani resident of Gonipora Hyhama, Kupwara. During search, officers were able to recover 14Kgs of Poppy from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Meanwhile, police received a specific information through reliable sources that one person identified as Jamsheed Ahmad Sheikh son of Ajaz Ahmad Sheikh resident of Tahab has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substances in his residential house.
On receipt of this information, a Police party from Police Station Pulwama alongwith Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said location. During search, officers were able to recover 5.5Kgs of cannabis leaves along with 125grams of cannabis leaves (powder form) from the said house. The accused person was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
In Handwara, officers established a checkpoint at Dedikoot crossing and intercepted two suspicious persons who after noticing a police party tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully.
They have been identified as Akhter Khan son of Ayaz Khan resident of Dedikoot and Tahir Ahmad Sofi son of Sanaullah Sofi resident of Batergam. During search, officers were able to recover 10 grams of Brown sugar from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at respective police stations and investigation have been taken up, the spokesman added.
