Locals demand opening of Gurez-Bandipora road
Bandipora: Scores of people from Kanzalwan led by Block Development Council Chairman Friday staged a protest seeking early opening of Gurez-Bandipora road as the snowbound Gurrez according to them is facing a ‘dearth of eatables and medicines.’
With the winter season affecting valleys’ road connectivity with the mainland, the protesters said that they are left in lurch as they face immense issues related to education, healthcare, and other basic facilities.
“Gurez which is only 60 kilometres away from district headquarter Bandipora is cut off from the rest of the world since December last year. We expect the road to be thrown open for the people as there is not much snow. The one to two feet snow won’t take too much time to get cleared from the roads,” the BDC Chairman said.
“We have met SDM Gurez and have put our demand for early opening of Gurez -Bandipora road as we are facing acute shortage of eatables and medicine,” said another protester.
The Bandipora-Gurez road which is maintained by BRO was closed due to snowfall from December last year. (KNT)
