Anantnag: Locals at Rakh-e-Brah village of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday held a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) alleging hike in monthly tariffs.
People from Rakh-e-Brah area assembled in the locality and demanded attention of concerned authorities in this regard.
They said that the PDD was making the locals suffer by resorting to such decisions unilaterally.
The protesters said that they fail to understand the logic behind the sudden hike in the electricity bill as till last year they were submitting Rs 108 per month.
Later meters were installed as well but due to unknown reasons, they were removed later but since last many months the authorities started sending us months bills of Rs 374.
They added that the locals have now received bills of this month and now the monthly tariff has been fixed at Rs 748.
“As we belong to ST community we are living in dhokas, tents and sheds and a hike in power tariff is increasing our sufferings. We are unable to pay the hiked electricity bills,” the locals said.
“By resorting to such unilateral actions, PDD is causing immense problems for the people,” they said, adding that they do not comprehend the reasoning behind the abrupt increase in the electricity bill.
People appealed to the Lt Guv led administration to look into the matter and roll back the decision of hike in monthly tariffs.
