Pulwama: Even after a lapse of around 16 years, residents of Andrusoo village in Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district await for completion of water supply scheme, locals alleged.
The local residents are up in arms against the concerned department for failing to ensure uninterrupted drinking water facility to the area.
Local residents said that two villages Andrusoo and Gondibal are without drinking water supply for the last 16 years due to which locals are facing lot of problems.
Waheed Ahmad, a local resident said that in 2005, water supply scheme for twin villages was sanctioned and work was started on it, however, it was left after unattended after around 80 percent of the work was completed.
“Since then we have been waiting that scheme will be made operational, however, 15 years have passed but authorities are yet to resume work on it,” he said.
Abbas Ahmad, another local said that they are forced to drink contaminated water as due to unknown reasons the scheme has been left incomplete.
He said that upper reaches of the area are getting portable drinking water at their doorsteps, however, Andrusoo and Gondibal which are just 2-3 kms from Pampore town are yet to get this basic facility.
Locals said that they had requested higher ups several times in this regard but the repeated requests have fallen deaf on their ears.
They once again requested higher ups to look into the matter and make the scheme functional at an earliest, so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
They also demanded that government must enquire the matter as to how and why the scheme has taken so much of time for completion.
An official of the PHE said that first due to low quality of water at Andrusoo, we shifted the scheme to Gondibal and later it got delayed due to shortage of funds.
He assured that work on this scheme will resume soon and in next few months the scheme will be made operational.
