Police arrests two drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police has arrested two drug peddlers in Anantnag and Srinagar and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Monday.
He said that police received a specific information through reliable sources that a person identified as Nawaz Ahmad Wani son of Mohammad Yousuf Wani resident of Hakura has indulged in drug peddling and hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substances at his residence.
On receipt of this information, a Police party along with an Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said location. During search, officers were able to recover 70Kgs of Poppy straw from the said house. However, the accused managed to escape from the spot and efforts are on to effect his arrest.
Meanwhile, in another action, a police party at a checkpoint established at Daggapora Khanabal intercepted a suspicious person who on seeing police party tried to escape from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party.
He was identified as Rouf Ahmad Nanda son of Abdul Hameed Nanda resident of Daggapora Khanabal. During checking, officers were able to recover 12Kgs of poppy straw from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
In Srinagar, a police party from PS Rajbagh at a checkpoint established at Abdullah Bridge Srinagar and intercepted a suspicious person. He was identified as Umar Sadiq Dar son of Mohammad Sadiq Dar resident of Gopalpora Wathoora Budgam. On checking, officers were able to recover 250 strips and 6000 capsules of banned drug from his possession. The accused has been arrested and shifted to PS where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Station and further investigation has been initiated.
