Pulwama: The residents of Larmoo village in Awantipora hamlet of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have alleged acute shortage of drinking water besides complaining about the water being contaminated.
While complaining about the issue the residents said that the authorities in the Jal-Shakti department are pushing them to face hardships in these bone chilling days as they are not receiving regular supply of drinking water.
Accusing the concerned officials for ignoring their plights, the residents have demanded immediate redressal of their grievances.
The residents said that they are facing immense hardships due to the acute shortage of water supply, which is making their life difficult.
Nazir Ahmad, a local resident said that they have two water supply schemes in the area through which they are getting water without any filtration from local spring and in absence of any filtration plant they are forced to drink contaminated water.
He said that the source of the water is hugely contaminated and hasn’t been cleaned since years now.
Locals said that two transformers and a motor were installed at the scheme but three years back one transformer developed some technical snag and was taken to the electric division for repairs but the transformer was not replaced.
He added that the transformer and the motor has almost worn out and remains dysfunctional for most of the time and as a result the water supply scheme too remains defunct and people have to suffer.
Locals said that children often fall ill by drinking unsafe and mud-filled water but despite repeated requests to the higher ups, our pleas are falling on deaf ears.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter and ensure that the plant works for most of the time and ensures regular and treated water to the residents.
