Rafiabad residents protest hike in water tariff
Sopore: Residents of Watergam Rafiabad and its adjoining areas on Tuesday staged a protest against Jal Shakti department for hiking the water tariff in their areas.
The protesters staged a demonstration at main Chowk Watergam and were chanting slogans against the Jal Shakti department while denouncing the hike in water tariff.
“It is completely injustice with poor people who cannot effort to pay the inflated bills. Kashmir valley has abundant water resources and making the people pay for water usage is totally unjustified,” said Advocate Muhammad Anayat, who is a resident of Watergam.
He said that Watergam and other adjacent areas of Rafiabad are made up of impoverished and unemployed families, and it is unfair to hike water tariff forcibly and this unfair practice is causing a huge public outcry.
The protestors appealed the Lt Guv and district administration to pay attention to this burning issue and find a feasible solution to the demands of the people.
