Anantnag: The residents of Hardtoor Bala village in Achabal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district are facing scarcity of water since years now.

Locals said that amid the bone chilling cold, women folk have walk over a kilometer everyday to bring water as there is no facility available in the area.

They said that few years before a new water tank was constructed in the area but irony is that from this new tank water is being supplied to those who were getting water from the already functional water supply scheme.

They said that since years they have been moving from pillar to post to get their issue redressed but nothing has been done on ground.

They further added that that some time back supply pipe lines were also laid in the village but later due to unknown reasons they were withdrawn.

The locals sought an investigation into the issue and said that those responsible for the act should be punished.

They added that the people in the village are forced to drink contaminated water.

“The authorities have turned a blind eye towards our plight and no one is bothered to address the issue the villagers are facing,” the locals said.

“Water borne diseases can break out anytime in the area as people are forced to consume water from a local canal which is full of garbage and dirt,” they said.

They requested higher up to look into the matter at an earliest to provide water to the locals so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
