Pulwama: The Municipal Committee Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama is dumping garbage along old national highway and national highway 44 due to which local residents as well as the commuters have to suffer.
Locals said that on regular basis, the garbage is dumped on either of the sites due to which local residents, college going students and others are facing lot of inconvenience.
They added that all the dirt and heaps of garbage from the whole town are dumped near gas plant Pampore on old national highway or near tourist cafeteria on national highway 44 and both are close to residential areas.
“The dumping sites pose a serious health risks amid the covid-19 pandemic,” said Bilal Ahmad a local resident.
He added that the foul smell from the dumping sites is also causing problems for the local residents and shopkeepers.
Despite having space available at many places authorities have chosen main points on the highway to dump the garbage thereby creating problems for the inhabitants, locals said.
They requested the concerned authorities to look into the matter and stop dumping wastage at this site.
On contacting executive officer Municipal Committee Pampore Mohammed Iqbal Bhat he acknowledged that locals are suffering as there is no option for them other than to dump the garbage near these two sites as since decades this process has been going on.
He said that a dumping site was constructed in the area which is complete but recently higher ups directed us not to dump garbage there as it falls in saffron land zone.
“Very soon we will find a way out as we are looking for alternative locations,” he added.
