Training session on fire fighting conducted in Uri

Srinagar: On the night of November 29th 2021, some shops of Boniyar markets were gutted and the dreams of many families shattered. Boniyar is a small town in the midst of Baramulla Uri road which has to wait for Fire & Services Deptt’s Fire tenders from some 25 km away at Baramulla.
In view of this, the administration of Sub Division Uri decided to conduct a training in collaboration with NDRF, SDRF and all stakeholder present in Uri-Boniyar to come up with a unified & effective response to all such fire incidents in the region.
Accordingly, a training was organized Saturday which was attended by the Chief Guest, SSP Baramulla, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, IPS, Director Disaster Management Aamir Ali, SDM Uri Harvinder Singh, IAS, SDPO Uri, Tehsildar Boniyar, BDO Boniyar among others.
In addition to these, all stakeholders like teams from NDRF, SDRF, Civil Defence, Indian Army, BRO, BSF, CISF and NHPC had deployed their men and machinery for training purposes. From the local population Sarpanches and volunteers from the area participated in large numbers.
The training focused on mainly three aspects – Fire fighting, Rescue & First Aid. Volunteers were imparted training by the trainers of NDRF & SDRF in terms of CPR, checking the condition of those hurt & evacuating those. A team of Indian Army that had been instrumental in dousing the fire in at least 10 such fire incidents explained how the crowding of the fire incident site hampers firefighting efforts and what all were basic Fire fighting skills that need to be kept in mind when someone is faced with initial fire in their localities.
Later a demo session was also conducted when a fire was lighted and the local people doused it with their own hands using various fire extinguishers. Various equipments were kept on display full day for familiarization purpose and the locals got to know various techniques of fire fighting and rescue. They expressed gratitude to civil administration for organising such a training programme for the first time in their area and expressed hope that situation would improve in near future.
