Anantnag: The residents of Prakashpora village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district are up in arms against the Jal Shakti department for failing to provide drinking water facility to the area.
The residents said that the village was never provided any pipeline and they are forced to consume contaminated water from the canal flowing through the area.
The locals said that the village is just one kilometer away from Anantnag town but due to unknown reasons, the village is being ignored.
They said that they are without drinking water as no official from the Jal Shakti department has visited their village so far, forcing them to consume contaminated water.
They said in 2015 a water supply was constructed in nearby village and they too were assured that Prakashpora village will be connected with same scheme, however, since then six years have passed but the area is yet to receive a single drop of water.
They added that after frequent visits to the offices of government authorities’ pipes were sent to the area but since then years have passed the pipeline hasn’t been installed.
They appealed to the concerned authorities to ensure proper and immediate water supply to the area so that the water woes faced by the people would come to an end.
The residents added that officials of the Jal Shakti ndepartment have almost ignored their area.
They urged the Chief Engineer Jal Shakti to direct the concerned authorities to take steps to ensure water supply to the locality.
