It has almost been 20 months since the covid-19 pandemic made us to realize the fragile healthcare response we had against the virus with threatened the world. Almost all activities came for a grinding halt and the third world countries had to bear the maximum brunt.
However, as the world got together to fight the deadly virus, the hope to survive made us lay our hands on a vaccine that promised us optimism to survive the onslaught. The arrival of covid-19 vaccines meant that the threat that seemed grave during the early days could be tackled and controlled.
Covid-19 vaccine made our lives lot more easy as almost all the activities were resumed after even first round of vaccinations as the virus seemed to get under control by vaccinations. This was evident from the fact that the infections that were caused after vaccinations were very mild and the death rate reduced drastically across the globe.
However, amidst the celebrations a key segment of the population-children, were left behind as no company across the globe could assure that a vaccine can be administered to them. This segment of the population remained and still is vulnerable to the virus threat. This has made the job of providing vaccine to the children all the more important.
The children being unvaccinated meant that all their activities which includes the prime activity of education and outdoor activities, have remained shut for them creating a huge loss for them both in terms of academics as well as their physical well being.
Now that the Serum Institute of India has set a timeline of six months for making a vaccine for children available, a new hope has also emerged for the children across the country.
India right now is in a better position with 8,000-10,000 new cases daily of which the majority would be the Delta variants. But what can really work wonders is the vaccine dose for children which can definitely enhance protection in their system, at least for five to six months.
Since the world is now better prepared for the third, fourth waves because we have learned what to do and what not to do. So, we are in a far better position today. Besides, we have also learned the importance of vaccines and how important it is to vaccinate the majority of the population to stop more waves in the future.
Vaccine for the children will also ensure that schools can witness a reopening as well and the loses the students community had to bear during the past almost two years will be compensated.
The children also faced a limited physical activity which led to various health issues among them. Ensuring vaccination for them will mean that they will have more freedom to move out and have fun and enjoy life.
