Arrangements reviewed for opening of Sonamarg during winters

GANDERBAL: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ganderbal, Farooq Ahmad Baba Saturday chaired a meeting of officers to review the arrangement being put in place for keeping Sonamarg open during the winters.
At the outset, threadbare discussion was held regarding the necessary preparations and arrangements including water, electricity, health, road, fire service, snow clearing operation, traffic management, firewood and other related facilities to be put in place for keeping Sonamarg open during the winters.
The concerned officers/officials briefed the meeting about the status of arrangements pertaining to their departments being put in place for keeping Sonamarg open during the winter.
Pertinently, earlier, Sonamarg Tourist Destination remained closed during the winter due to heavy snowfall and avalanches in Gagangeer area and with the commissioning of Z-Morh Tunnel, the Sonamarg Tourist Destination shall remain open for the first time in winter also.
After threadbare discussion, the ADC reiterated that all facilities and arrangements should be put in place well on time so that the tourists visiting Sonamarg during winters are provided better facilities and shall not face any inconvenience. All departments were given necessary instructions in this regard.
The concerned departments were directed to ensure that sufficient machinery and manpower are deployed for clearing of snow from Gagangeer to Sonamarg including car parking areas and inner roads in Sonamarg.
Regarding water supply, the officials of Jal Shakti Department were directed to keep sufficient water tankers available and make efforts to ensure necessary repairs to existing pipeline to make them functional during winters also to suffice water requirement.
The meeting was attended by SDM Kangan, CMO Ganderbal, Ex Engineers of various departments, DySP HQ and other district and sectoral officers.
