Hirpora Shopian residents demand bank, ATM in the area

Shopian: Residents of Hirpora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday expressed dismay over the non availability of banking and Automated Teller Machine (ATM) facility in the area.
The residents said despite widening the network of branches in the Valley and also in south Kashmir, the J&K Bank have not installed any ATM in the area besides that authorities are yet to start any bank branch in the area.
The locals said that Hirpora is around 12 kms from main Shopian and is located on Mughal road which witnesses heavy rush of local as well as non local tourists but authorities are yet start any bank or install an ATM in the area.
Muhammad Younis Khan, a local resident said that the people are facing severe problems due to lack of bank and ATM facilities in the area.
Farooq Ahmed, another resident said amid Covid-19 people of the area are forced to go to main town Shopian to withdraw money from a bank or ATM.
“You have to withdraw money from there and if you want to withdraw two hundred rupees, you have to spent Rs 100 as fare,” he added.
“We are facing difficulties due to the non-availability of bank and ATM besides those tourists are also suffering in absence of ATM in the area,” the locals added.
Locals demanded that the authorities should install ATM in the area, so that they can avail the benefit of the facility besides that a bank branch should be opened in the area as well.
