Anantnag: With the number of vehicles increasing with each passing day, the traffic management is becoming a daunting task for the authorities in main town Anantnag since long now, locals say.
The massive traffic jam on Khanabal–Janglat Mandi road has become a routine now due to which people are facing lot of inconvenience as it takes hours to pass through the road even as traffic personnel have been deployed to clear the traffic mess.
“Vendors as well as shopkeepers display their stuff on the pavement and people are forced to walk on the streets,” Zubair Ahmad, a resident of Nai-Basti Anantnag, said.
He said that the issue has become so grave that almost daily attendants of the patients come down from the ambulances and request people to pave way for them so that they can take their patients to the hospital.
“Many people also park their cars haphazardly along the roads which are already narrow and leading to hospitals and other important establishments, thereby adding to the traffic mess,” said another local, adding that people lack civic sense.
“All routes of the main town are witnessing heavy traffic jams but authorities have failed to take cognizance of the issue,” he added.
Locals said that a mega multi level car parking complex has been completed in Janglat Mandi area of the town but it hasn’t been made functional.
They said that authorities must make it functional at an earliest so that this traffic mess would end in the town.
An official of the municipal Council Anantnag said that the complex is complete and will be made functional in coming weeks.
He said that the parking place is designed to accommodate around two thousand vehicles on daily basis.
