Kulgam: A vital bridge in Brazloo area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district is awaiting completion as the construction work has not been completed so far, locals alleged.
They said that a two lane bridge over the Vaisho nallah was approved in year 2017 but since then it awaits completion as the pace of work on the bridge during the past few years was too slow.
The locals said that presently the bridge which was damaged in 2014 floods is very narrow and often leads to traffic jam.
They added that sometimes even emergency cases get stuck for hours due to heavy traffic jam and even students and employees don’t reach to schools and offices on time.
“It takes us hours to reach Shopian or Qazigund via this road as traffic jam makes commuting almost impossible,” Khalid Hussian, a local resident said.
He added that if the bridge will be completed, it will take them just half an hour to reach Qazigund from Kulgam.
Locals said that they have taken up this issue with the local authorities several times but only assurances have been provided to them while as nothing changed on ground.
The locals once again requested the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
An official said that due to technical issues the construction of the project got delayed
He said that as the stretch in now part of the national highway-44 and the project has been taken by National highway authority of India.
He added that the design of the bridge is to be changed and fresh tenders have been floated already.
He added that once the tendering process is over work on this vital bridge will start at an earliest.
