‘Hybrid’ militant arrested, grenade recovered: Police

Srinagar: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a ‘hybrid’ militant in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district and recovered grenade from his possession.
A police spokesman in a statement issued here said that that on Thursday, a police party had established a check point near Khann which observed an individual to have come suspiciously close. “The individual was challenged who instead of complying with the signs and command, tried to flee. The individual was overpowered and apprehended on spot,” he said.
Police said that the suspicious person was later identified as Arshad Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Subhan Mir of Sehpora, Ganderbal.
“Subsequently, a case under FIR number 211/21 under section 13, 39 of ULA (P) ACT and 7/25 of Arms Act was registered in PS Ganderbal and investigation set into motion. During sustained questioning, individual was found as a staunch militant associate of Lashkar-e-Toiba/TRF whose name had surfaced during earlier investigations also.”
During preliminary investigation, the individual has also been found involved in recruitment of his own brother Lateef Ahmad Mir arrested in FIR 57/21 u/s 13, 39 ULA (P) Act & 7/25 Arms Act of PS Kheer Bhawani, police said, adding that other individuals motivated and facilitated for recruitment by ‘hybrid’ militant Arshad Ahmad Mir are being identified and further arrests and recoveries are expected.
