Pulwama: A vital bridge on the Pulwama-Shopian highway in Shirmal area is awaiting completion since the last 10 months leaving the people to suffer as they have to travel long distances to reach their destinations.
Locals from different areas of south Kashmir said that the work on this vital bridge was started some 10 months back but it is still nowhere near completion.
They said that the old bridge located on the road is very narrow due to which the area witnesses frequent traffic jams and as a result the people have started avoiding travelling on the road.
Shameen Ahmad, a resident of Pinjoora said that that diversion is very narrow and two vehicles are unable to pass simultaneously which often leads to traffic jams for hours.
He said that besides highway, this route is connecting the main fruit mandi in Aglar Shopian due to traffic rush is very high and problem of traffic jam has worsened over the months.
Locals said that they have repeatedly brought this issue into the notice of authorities but nothing has been done so far.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and ensure that the bridge is completed.
An official of the R&B said that project falls under national highway authorities.
