Pulwama: A water supply scheme which commenced after four years in Sofipora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district recently is not functioning properly and majority of the households are yet to be connected to the pipelines, locals said Monday.
They while thanking administration for completing the scheme in quickest possible time said that the pipeline which was laid to provide potable water to the villagers of Sofipora and Hydergund is experiencing leakages.
Irfan Ahmad, a local resident said that so far just 50 percent of populations of Sofipora and Hydergund villages have been connected and government must ensure connecting the pending households at an earliest.
He said that there isn’t a single joint between two pipes where one cannot find huge leakages due to which water is everywhere on roads and other points.
Mansoor Ahmad, another resident of the area said that they thank the government for fulfilling the long pending demand of providing water supply scheme to the area.
He said that presently just 50 percent households have been connected as of now but the main problem is the he pipeline which has been laid is full of leakages which authorities must fix at an earliest.
Locals said that they have brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
They said that supply remains available for just one hour and authorities must make arrangements to make water supply available for 3-4 hours on daily basis.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
