Police arrests drug peddlers in Pulwama, Anantnag

Srinagar: Police in Pulwama have exposed a contraband drugs racket by arresting four drug peddlers and seized huge consignment of drugs. Besides, Police arrested another drug peddler in Anantnag, a police spokesman said Friday.
Acting on specific information, a special team raided a specific location at Prichoo area in Pulwama. During the raid, the team was able to recover 13 bottles of banned drugs from the possession of Imran Sheikh son of Abdul Ahad Sheikh resident of Alamdar Colony Prichoo Pulwama. On questioning, the arrested drug peddler revealed that he has nexus with another person who is coming to handover one more consignment of banned drugs to him.
On receipt of this information, a Police team intercepted a Grand i-10 vehicle driven by Gowhar Ahmad Najar son of Farooq Ahmad Najar resident of Pinglina at a checkpoint established near Boys Degree College Pulwama. On checking, 11 bottles of Codeine, 1700 tablets of banned drugs, besides cash amount ₹80,000/- were seized from his possession. He was arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized, the spokesman said.
During further course of investigation, two more drug peddlers namely Aijaz Ahmad Bhat @Mehdi son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat resident of Pinglina and Javid Ahmad Dar son of Bashir resident of Tahab Pulwama were arrested.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 302/2021 stands registered at Police Station Pulwama and a SIT under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Pulwama has been constituted to investigate the case thoroughly.
Similarly, Police in Anantnag arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession. Officers from Police Post Janglat Mandi at a checkpoint established at Donipawa Anantnag intercepted a suspicious person identified as Abdul Majeed Ganie son of Mohammad Shaban Ganie resident of Sherpora Bala Anantnag. During checking, officers were able to recover 05kgs of Charas Powder from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody. A case vide FIR number 473/2021 stands registered in Police Station Anantnag and investigation has been taken up, the spokesman added.
