Police arrests three drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Friday.
He said that a police party in Awantipora established a check point at Literabal Pampore and intercepted two persons riding a scooty bearing registration number JK13F-1366. They duo were identified as Javaid Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Rehman Bhat resident of Nihama Kakapora and Abdul Hamid Mir son of Ghulam Rasool Mir resident of Kadlabal Pampore.
During checking, officers were able to recover 13 Kgs of Poppy Straw from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Scooty used in commission of crime has also been seized.
Similarly, Police Station Kulgam received specific information that a person identified as Bashir Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Gani Mir resident of Hadigam has indulged in drug peddling and has hoarded a huge quantity of narcotic substance in his residential house.
On receipt of this information, a Police party of PS Kulgam alongwith Executive Magistrate raided the specific location. During search, officers were able to recover 6.5Kgs of dried cannabis from the said residential house. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law stands registered in respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
