Delay in construction of bridge irks Shopian residents
Shopian: The inordinate delay in construction of a small bridge on main road in Sugan area of Shopian district has been causing trouble to the locals, a group of residents alleged.
The residents said that the construction on the bridge was started three years back and due to unknown reasons it is still incomplete.
They said that Sugan route proves easy for dozens of villages to reach fruit mandi Aglar Shopian and due to incomplete bridge, drivers are forced to take long routes.
“We have to pay extra fare charges to the trucker to take fruit to local mandi as they giving us excuse of using long route,” said Saifullah, a local resident.
He said that Shopian Chitragam route is in dilapidated condition due to which people of the area are suffering as transporters were using this road as an alternative route.
“Such small construction work takes time of just few days but now years have passed and condition of the small bridge is taking so long,” said another local.
He said that it is an irony that a bridge as small as a culvert is taking so much time to get completed.
People of Zainapora, Babapora, Reshiepora, Chitragam, Reban and many other areas have been suffering since years but authorities are resorting to inordinate delay despite knowing the hardships of the people, the locals said.
They requested the concerned authorities to look into the issue and complete the bridge so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
