Five drug peddlers held in Pulwama, Bandipora

Srinagar: Police on Tuesday arrested five drug peddlers in Pulwama and Bandipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said here. He said that police also destroyed wild bung spread on vast area in Shopian.
The spokesman said that a police party during checking at a traffic checking point near Khamray Crossing intercepted a Santro Car bearing registration number JK01G-4932 with two persons on board.
They duo has been identified as Mudasir Ahmad Thoker son of Ghulam Hassan Thoker resident of Sonasamil and Yamin Rashid son of Abdul Rashid Malik resident of Malikpora Pulwama. On checking, 370 grams of Charas, 02 digital weighing machines and cash ₹10000/- was recovered. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been sized, the spokesman added.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 288/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Pulwama and investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, police in Bandipora acting on specific information regarding movement of drug peddlers in Sumbal area intensified patrolling in the area. The patrolling party intercepted three persons in suspicious condition. On their search, 17 bottles of Codeine were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Majid Mushtaq Shangu son of Mushtaq Ahmad Shangu resident of Osangrampora Sopore, Shafat Ahmad Shah son of Muzafar Ahmad Shah resident of Shaalpora Sopore and Nazir Ahmad Sofi son of Gh Ahmad Sofi resident of Dilna Baramulla, A/P Sumbal. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 136/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Sumbal and investigation has been taken up.
Moreover, Police in Shopian launched an intensified mass destruction drive of Bung (cannabis) in the villages Wachi, Wandina, Melhoora, other adjoining areas. During the drive a wild Bung spread on vast areas was destroyed, the spokesman added.
