Drone dropping case: OGW from Anantnag held in Jammu

Jammu, Oct 12: Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested an Over Ground Worker (OGW) in Jammu district.

Police officials said that an OGW from Anantnag, who was reportedly in touch with handlers from across border was held, saying that he was tasked to collect the drone dropped consignment of arms and ammunition that was found lying in fields in Phalian Mandal area of Satwari in Jammu on October 2.

Police said that during investigation, some vital clues were received by investigation team and an OGW from Anantnag was put under scanner who was found in constant touch with some militant outfits from across border.

“He was tasked to collect this drone dropped consignment of arms and ammunition and to carry it to Valley,” said officials while identifying the arrested OGW as Irfan Ahmed Bhat, son of Farooq Ahmed Bhat of Anantnag.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Chandan Kohli said that the arrested OGW was to asked to collect the consignment, which, however, was recovered by police in an operation.

Meanwhile, police in a tweet said that “One terrorist Irfan Ahmead Bhat S/O Farooq Ahmead Bhat R/O Verinag Anantnag stands arrested in case FIR no. 230/21 U/S 120-B IPC, 7/25 Arms Act and 13,16,18,23 ULAP dated 2nd Oct 2021 in PS Satwari. (Drone stopping case)”

“He has confessed that he is in touch with handlers across and is associated with #LeT. He had come here to receive consignment (which already stands seized by Police, i.e one AK series rifle, 3 magazines, 30 rounds, and one Optical sight),” Police media centre Jammu tweeted—(KNO)
