Anantnag: The route to famous tourist destination Pagalgam via Sallar is in dilapidated condition at several places, the locals have alleged.
They said that authorities are carrying out widening and macadamisation of link roads in different areas but have forgotten Bijbehara-Pahalgam via Langabal road.
They said that most of the tourists choose this road because of short length and scenic beauty but the road hasn’t been macadamised since long now.
“The potholes on this vital road are causing inconvenience to locals as well as to tourists and authorities should carry out macadamisation on this road,” said Irshad Ahmad, a resident of Walarhama.
He said that if authorities have macadamised link roads they have ignored this vital road due to unknown reasons.
“We don’t know when this road was macadamised last time and even government hasn’t bothered to go for patch work,” said Sameer Ahmad, another local.
The locals demanded that government must fully macadamise the road at an earliest so that the commuters and tourists witnesses some relief.
An official of the roads and buildings department in Anantnag said that they have submitted a proposal of Rs 2 crore for its repair but only Rs 60 lakhs were approved.
He said that out of this money the road will only be partly repaired.
