GMC Srinagar celebrates ‘World Heart Day’

SRINAGAR: On the occasion of ‘World Heart Day’ celebrated on 29th September every year, the Department of Biochemistry, Govt Medical College (GMC) Srinagar in collaboration with Research Society for study of diabetes in India (RSSDI) organised an event here to celebrate World Heart Day here.
This year the theme of the day was ‘Defeat Diabetes / One Nation One Day One Million Tests’ and in this context around 400 Blood sugar and Glycated hemoglobin tests were done free of cost in the F–Block Diagnostic Biochemistry Laboratory, SMHS Hospital .
The event was inaugurated by Prof, (Dr) Samia Rashid, Principal/ Dean, GMC Srinagar in presence of HOD Biochemistry Prof(Dr) Sabhiya Majid and Dr Kanwaljeet , Medical Superintendent SMHS Hospital besides other faculty ,staff and students.
The Speakers informed that Diabetes is a prime risk factor for cardiovascular disease and is a global epidemic and needs to be controlled early in which screening for diabetes plays an important role. India has an estimated 77 million people with diabetes in 2021 making it only second to China.
