Achabal’s Mughal Hamam in shambles, locals demand restoration

Anantnag: Local tourists as well as residents of Achabal area in Anantnag have appealed to UT Administration to restart renovation work of Mughal Hamam in Mughal Garden Achabal.
They said that the Mughal Hamam is in a dilapidated condition and it has turned into a place of choice for people involved in anti-social activities.
The large quantities of garbage including polythene, plastic, chemicals and medical waste and are inside the Hamam which irks the tourists who visit Achabal garden, locals said.
“The garden along with this Mughal Hamam which is our part of our history has been left in shambles and anyone who visits here pledges not to visit the place again,” Shakeel Ahmad, a local resident said.
Despite many years, the Hamam has not been renovated yet, he said.
“The work was started last year but unfortunately due to COVID-19 the work was stopped since then it is in the pause mode,” he added.
“The Hamam has been left abandoned and it has become a safe and secure place for drug addicts,” said another local.
He said every day drug addicts are using the place to resort to anti-social acts and there is minimal attention from authorities in this regard.
The residents said they have brought this issue into the notice of concerned higher ups several times but to no avail.
They appealed to the administration to initiative efforts for the repair of the Hamam and restore the historic place back to its glory.
