Vendors, shopkeepers occupy roads, footpaths in Kulgam town
Kulgam: The vendors as well as shop keepers are occupying the footpaths and even roads in main town Kulgam causing huge problems for pedestrians, the locals alleged.
The tall claims of the administration that strict action is being taken against those who are occupying roads and footpaths illegally are falling flat as vendors and shopkeepers continue to occupy the footpaths and roads which often lead to a accidents and heavy traffic jam, they said.
The pedestrians while expressing their resentment against the administration said that orders remain confined to papers only and the situation is very different on ground.
They said that a major chunk of footpaths and roads is occupied by vendors and shopkeepers due to which pedestrians are forced to walk on roads which often lead to accidents.
They said that Municipal committee Kulgam was umpteen times informed in this regard but no attention was given towards the issue.
“Every morning shopkeepers display their goods on footpaths and major chunk of footpaths remains occupied with their goods on daily basis but no attention is being given towards it,” says Danish Hussein, a local resident.
He said commuters are facing lot of inconvenience while moving in Kulgam town but authorities are watching as mute spectators.
Locals have requested the district administration to look into the matter and take action against illegal occupiers so that pedestrians can move with ease.
An official of the Municipal Committee Kulgam said that they have repeatedly warned vendors and shopkeepers to avoid occupying roads and footpaths.
He said that very soon they are going to start a drive and strict action will be taken against illegal occupiers.
