CASO launched in Budgam village

Srinagar: A combing operation launched by the Army after it detected suspicious movement in Uri along the Line of Control in north Kashmir entered the third day on Tuesday, officials said. Meanwhile, a massive search operation was also started in Budgam village.
All telecommunication facilities including internet in the border town remained suspended.
The combing operation was launched on the intervening night of September 18-19, the officials said.
A defence spokesman here said the search operation were going on in the area but did not elaborate if the forces had found anything to lend credence to the reports of major infiltration bid in the sector.
Officials said one soldier had sustained injuries in the “initial contact” with the adversary near the fence along the LoC, which had prompted the massive search operation to ensure that the infiltrators, if any, do not get to the hinterland.
On Monday, the authorities had snapped all telephone and internet services in Uri as a precautionary measure.
The area where suspicious movement was observed falls near Gohalan, the same area from where the attack on Uri Brigade was launched by terrorists in September 2016.
Meanwhile, a massive Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by security forces on Tuesday afternoon at Drang forests of Lachampora Khag in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
Reports said that a joint team of Army’s 63RR and SOG cordoned off Drang forests and started searches there.
Reports said that all entry and exit points towards the area were sealed by the security forces.
Meanwhile, a civilian is reported to have sustained a bullet injury after suspected militants fired on the forces during the CASO.
The civilian suffered injury on his leg after militants fired upon security forces in Lassipora Khag area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
A police spokesman said that militants fired upon the security forces while on an operational duty near village Lassipora Khag in which the civilian, Bilal Ahmad Rather of Charihar received injury in the leg.
“The injured is stable and the area adjacent to the place of incident i.e Lachmanpora Beerwah is under cordon and search is going on,” the police said, adding, “Credential of injured person also being ascertained.” (with inputs from PTI, GNS)
