Police arrest ‘notorious criminal’

Jammu: Police in Jammu arrested a ‘notorious’ criminal on Thursday, a police spokesman said.
He said that a police party from police station Bahu Fort while on patrolling duty near Bahu Plaza and Rail Head complex area rounded up a suspect who tried to flee away on seeing police party.
Upon search, a pistol was recovered from his possession. Police said the arrested man is a notorious criminal who has been identified as Sumeshwar Singh Jamwal alias Vicky alias Raja, a resident of Bantalab Lower Thathar area of Jammu.
Police said that a formal case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of law and during further questioning accused revealed that he has brought around 8/10 country made pistols from outside Jammu and Kashmir.
Pertinently, the accused was a notorious criminal and was earlier also arrested under NDPS Act for his involvement in drug trafficking. (KNT)
