Sopore: Residents of Amberpora Tarzoo in north Kashmir’s Baramulla District on Wednesday hit the roads to protest against Roads and Buildings (R&B) department for failing to repair and macadamize a link road which connects them to Sopore via Tarzoo, reports said.
The residents alleged that the road has not been repaired from the past six years.
While blocking Sopore-Sumbal road for hours the residents of the village said that the road is in dilapidated conditions as the stretch has not been repaired since long and the authorities never pay any heed towards the village.
“We took to the streets a number of times to press for our demands but all in vain as the concerned department failed to take any step in this regard,” the locals said, adding that they also approached the concerned authorities several times but no steps were taken to redress their demands.
Soon after the locals blocked the road a police party from Tarzoo Sopore reached the spot and pacified the protesters.
Meanwhile, official in the R&B department Sopore said that a tender in this regard has been already issued and work on the link road will be initiated soon.
