Stray dogs on prowl in Sopore, eight injured during attacks

Sopore: Eight persons were attacked and injured by stray dogs in north Kashmir’s Sopore town on Sunday evening, reports said.
They said that a pack of stray dogs appeared in Main Chowk area of Sopore and attacked a group of persons including children injuring them critically.
However, all the injured were taken to Sub District hospital Sopore for treatment, where one among the injured was shifted to Medical College Baramulla for advanced treatment.
Meanwhile, hospital authorities said that they received eight people with dog bites and one among them identified as Shabir Ahmad Dar resident of Takiabal was referred to Medical college Baramulla for advanced treatment.
Locals said that such attacks are becoming common in many localities and in surrounding areas of Sopore as stray dogs have injured hundreds including women and children which has created fear among the residents.
The locals said that authorities are acting as mute spectators as nothing concrete is being initiated to tackle this menace.
“We had requested the officials of municipal committees several times to initiate measures to tackle the growing number of canines in the area, but as of now nothing has been done in this regard,” Nasir Ali Shah, a local resident of Sopore said.
