Police solves theft case in Awantipora, five held

Srinagar: Police on Saturday claimed to have solved a theft case by arresting five accused persons involved in stealing cement from parked trucks at Awantipora in south Kashmir, a police spokesman said here.
He said that on Tuesday police received a complaint from Arshid Ahmad Mir resident of Khrew stating there in that during the intervening night of 23/24 August his Truck bearing registration No. JK13-3822 loaded with 180 bags of Cement was stolen which was parked near Playground Khrew.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 61/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Khrew and investigation was set into motion.
During the course of investigation, after strenuous efforts the stolen truck was recovered in Wuyan area without cement bags. Taking assistance of modern techniques, the investigating team was able to learn about involvement of five suspected persons identified as Danish Shafi resident of New Colony Khrew, Zaffer Ahmad Bhat, Reyaz Ahmad Bhat, Sikandar Ali Bhat and Waseem Ishtiyaq Ganai residents of Wuyan. Accordingly, all the accused persons were arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Moreover, on their disclosure another Truck bearing registration No. JK02U-3327 loaded with the stolen cement bags was also recovered and seized. Further investigation into the matter is in progress, the spokesman added.
