Anantnag: Amid the soaring temperature, residents of Satkipora village in Bijbehara hamlet of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district are facing shortage of drinking water.
The residents of Satkipora said that they have been longing for potable water since long now.
They said that in absence of water they are forced to drink water from springs and streams which is highly contaminated.
They added that a bore well was installed by the Jal Shakti Department some time back but one bore well isn’t able to meet the water requirement of the large population.
“Stakipora village consists of over 250 households and how can one bore well cater to the whole population of the area,” Sajid Ahmad, a local resident said.
He said that to fetch drinking water women folk of the area have to go travel several kilometres which is very difficult when there is rain or snow.
Locals said that due to frequent power shutdowns in the area, bore well also remains defunct for most of the time.
Meanwhile, an official of the Jal Shakti department when contacted said that a team will be deputed to the area to check the problems in the area.
He said that once the team will submit its report steps will be taken to provide drinking water facilities in the area.
