Man held for smuggling heroin

Jammu/Srinagar: ammu and Kashmir police Friday arrested one person in Rajouri district and recovered a consignment of heroin from him, officials said. Meanwhile, three drug peddlers were arrested from south Kashmir’s Kulgam.
A police team intercepted a Tata Indigo car at Sunderbani on the Jammu-Rajouri highway, Superintendent of Police (SP) Sheema N Qasba said.
The officer said 690 grams of heroin was recovered from Liyaquat Ali, a resident of Doongi Bharamana village.
A case has been registered at Sunderbani police station against Ali and further investigation is on to nab those connected with him in the smuggling of narcotic substances.
Liyaqat is said to be a Sarpanch, sources said.
Meanwhile, a police team intercepted three suspicious persons who were trying to flee from a checkpoint established at Nandimarag crossing. However, police acted swiftly and arrested all the three.
They have been identified as Gulzar Ahmad Ganie, Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat and Ali Mohammad Mir, all residents of DH Pora. During checking, officers were able to recover 70gms of Brown Sugar from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 107/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station DH Pora and further investigation has been initiated.
