Anantnag: Even after a lapse of over 15 years, a vital bridge in Chaklipora village of Shangus area in Anantnag district awaits completion, locals said.
They said that after hectic efforts by the locals the construction of bridge was started in the area 15 years back but as of now it hasn’t been completed due to which the people are facing hardships.
They said that every year locals construct a makeshift bridge on the canal but every year it is being washed away during summers when water level of the canal increases.
“In absence of bridge people of the area are suffering crossing makeshift bridge has proved dangerous many times as many accidents have happened there,” Zakir Hussain, a local resident said.
He said that elderly people, school going children and patients are facing the brunt of it.
Locals added that whenever there is rain or snow, it is impossible to cross the makeshift bridge which further escalates the problem.
They said that during election every politician comes here and promises us that all our genuine demands will be fulfilled but once elections are over, nobody comes here or takes care of our problems.
“We have brought this issue in notice of higher ups several times but to no avail as repeated promises have proved a mere hoax,” they added.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and complete the bridge so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
